The Calvary in Wiele
The Calvary in Wiele is the second (after Calvary in Wejherowo) facility of this kind in Kashubia. It is picturesquely situated on the hills surrounding Wiele and Wielewskie lake.
The Calvary in Wiele was founded by Fr. Józef Szydzik, and the owner of the land Durajewski.
The Calvaryin Wielewas built in 1915-1927 and designed by Theodor Mayer from Munich.
Take a close look at St. Nicholas parish church in Wiele. The greatest monument is the baroque miraculous image of Our Lady of Consolation.
The first chapel built here was "Gethsemane", consecrated on 19 August 1915. The calvary consists of 23 facilities, including 14 chapels, 6 sculptural compositions, sacred stairs, the pulpit and the hermitage. The chapels are made of brick, covered with plaster, placed on field stone foundations, granite and cement.
The Calvary in Wiele is not only a place of worship but also a great tourist attraction. This venue hosts two indulgences in one year, "the great indulgence" (during the Feast of the Ascension of Jesus), and "the small indulgence" (during the Feast of Our Lady of Consolation).
